Measuring Warehousing Costs: Reengineering the Process & Realigning Strategies

MEASURING WAREHOUSING COST:
Reengineering the Process & Realigning Strategies
16 & 17 JANUARY 2012, GRAND MILLENNIUM HOTEL, KUALA LUMPUR

INTRODUCTION
Warehousing is an important link in the total supply chain efficiency. While its importance is understood, many are still in the dark on how to measure its efficiency, specifically, cost efficiencies. Costs will be incurred in operating a warehouse. In most cases these costs are quite obvious like; rental, labor, energy, insurance, etc., but there are costs that are not that clear to many. These are costs that are hidden from most financial analysis and subsequently the effectiveness of it. Costs are very different between a manual process and a computerized system. Traditionally, many warehouses are very manual process oriented. While this is changing to computerized systems, it is done at a very slow pace. A Warehouse Management System, not only provide the impetus to cost efficiencies, it also provides benefits to process improvements, supply chain efficiencies and improve overall management of inventories. WMS may sound rosy, but the costs will have to be looked at. Does it justify investment in such a system? This and various other cost elements are addressed in this program

PROGRAM BENEFITS
Upon completion of the training program, participants are expected to achieve the following benefits:
• Understand the functions, processes and operating fundamentals of a warehouse
• Develop complete and comparable warehouse costs
• Better understanding of warehouse costs
• A standardized costing methodology
• Justify cost elements and benefits of investment in computerized systems

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The program is designed to address all cost issues relating to the management of a warehouse, be it a small family run outfit or sophisticated 3PLs. It imparts knowledge on cost elements and measurement methods that need to be looked at. A major objective is to show how the process costs may be changed with investment in technology and process reengineering, while objectively keeping an 'eagle's eye' on cost of such a change. Besides, the program enables a company to assemble the full costs of their warehouse by following a warehouse costing model
